Bought this after my girlfriend's old straightener died on her one day. She totally adores the color, and it does a great job at taming her mane!

If I could rate it NO STARS - I would - Shelley - Danville IL USA
I received this curling iron in the mail. I wasn't satisfied with its end results, but it fit my budget more than a Chi would. Not only was I unhappy with how it worked, but within THREE days the curling iron stopped working. It hadn't been dropped in any way and had not been mishandled in any way. I cannot return it because I threw out the box and the receipt. I'll never do that again. It was tossed out with the garbage less than a week after I received it. Guess that'll teach me for trying to save a dollar because it's going to cost me to buy another one - at that rate, I'll be halfway to paying for a Chi.

The price was more than reasonable comparied to others. The curling iron works great on my thick hair - gets very hot; I use it primarly for my bangs. The only thing I didn't like -- there was no type of medal anchor when you place the barrel on a table. When you put in down on the table or bathroom sink, the hot barrel lies directly on the surface and could damage the surface if you use it anywhere other than in the bathroom.

I was looking for a compact travel dryer to keep at work for those days when I have to leave the house before my hair is completely dry. Torn between this and a dual voltage/international dryer, I went with the Revlon based on my positive experiences with their products in the past. Great decision! When I opened the box, I got quite the pleasant surprise--this dryer has a dual voltage switch (it can operate on US-standard 110V or 220V systems, which you find in most of Europe and throughout the world). I hadn't seen anything about this feature on the product page, so I wanted to get the word out for anyone considering this dryer. It's powerful for a compact/travel dryer with 1875W and it dries my heavy hair impressively quickly. This dryer has suited my needs perfectly; I highly recommend it!!

Watch out - could be dangerous! - Delbelle - San Francisco, CA United States
I don't need to have the dyer on very long to style my short hair. I noticed right away that this dryer, on the regular setting, became VERY HOT and burning to my scalp. I've never had a dryer that felt so hot on my hands either. Was concerned about this, but if you use the other (low) setting, it is just barely warm. After a month, the dryer would really overheat after about 8 minutes and either suddenly switch to the low setting or turn off. I've never had a dryer that became so very hot as this one, so am on my way to buy another. The fact that the plastic became so hot to the touch after a mere 8 minutes had me worried that it may become dangerous at some point. Not worth the chance so in the trash it goes. Be very wary of the intense heat on your hair & scalp, as well as the unit turning off after just minutes of use.

Don't bother - Save your money - annie - LA
I bought this dryer to bring on an overseas trip -- used it once at home to try it and I'm glad I did. Save your money -- don't buy this dryer unless you want to be extremely disappointed. I have used travel dryers in the past, but this one is worthless.

When my old hair dryer died (it lasted 20+ years, so I can't complain), I was looking for a replacement. Most of the ones I found were too big, expensive and complicated for my taste (too many weird styling attachments I will never use). This is very simple (two speeds, two temperatures), and the price is very economical. I've had it for quite a while now, and I'm very pleased.

Wrong Model - Walton -
I never received the correct model as pictured on web site. The one that came had a folding handle and was not what was represented or was ordered. Customer service was very nice and promised to send the correct dryer. The box arrived shortly thereafter but still contained the wrong model. A 2nd call to customer service again revealed the bar code on the manufacturers box was correct but the dryer inside the box was wrong. I asked for a refund and they were very nice about putting it through.

Hey everyone! I am a guy with medium long thick straight hair. Sorta like an emo/scene style and this product is great. My goal was to flat iron my hair so I could give it a more beachy look with different flips and curls. It looks way better. This mini flat iron is the perfect size and it doesn't feel cheap. It heats up pretty fast but its not the fastest. If you want a 30 second heat up, this mini is not for you. It takes like 1 minute to heat up. My brother has pretty curly hair and he has a mini flat iron like me, but not the same one. He has the Jose Eber petite flat iron which is even smaller than mine and heats up in 30 seconds. I highly recommend that one too. The croc however, I think, is better for thicker hair because it has a slightly bigger plate. You can grab a little more hair and if you run through your hair slowly it flattens it out and makes it really straight. Also, I like that this flat iron has spring plates which means it doesnt completely crush your hair. It adjusts to your hair. This is supposed to be healthier for your hair. One way to check if it has spring plates (I don't know what the plates are really called) is if you press down on the plates and it moves up into the iron. Remember to buy a thermal heat protector if you blow dry and flat iron your hair daily. Thats what i do with this iron and it makes my hair shinier than when i use the flat iron alone. It also protects your hair from heat damage and makes it look and feel healthier. If you have longer hair you shouldn't go for the mini flat irons.

Really good for the money! - T. Mountain - Birmingham, AL USA
I needed a flat iron that was dual voltage that didn't take up too much room in my luggage & didn't cost a fortune. While this doesn't heat up as fast or as much as my CHI, it worked on my week long trip to Spain like a champ. Only had to buy a plug converter that worked with all of my other dual voltage apliances. Yeah!

Great for traveling - liz8 -
This is the perfect size for traveling and works pretty well for it's size. My husband and I went to Italy and wanted to carry on all of our luggage, so I needed something that wouldn't take up space. The case doubles as a heat protective mat, so not only could you set it down on anything, but you could wrap it up and pack it while it was still hot. It heats up fast and the dual voltage is perfect for traveling anywhere. It takes a little longer to straighten my hair than with my regular sized one, but was perfect for the trip.

Customer Review

I'm planning a trip to Tuscany and Umbria next fall (I've been to Florence before), and found the Frommer's Italy 2010 guide* so helpful I bought this more focused guide.

Some of what I said about the broader guide applies to this this one, as well: Like the Michelin guide, it rates key attractions with one to three stars. While I would never plan a trip based on the ratings of a single guidebook, I do find the star ratings helpful in elucidating the author's opinions in a way that sifting through different adjectives in descriptions isn't. Unlike the Michelin guide this book groups cities by geography (which is how you would visit them) rather than alphabetically across the whole country. It also has more detail on hotels. In fact, the extensive descriptions of hotels is one of the reasons I found this guide so useful.

While the Italy guide covers Florance and Tuscany, Umbria, and The Marches in two chapters and less than 200 pages, this guide offers more than 400 pages devoted to Florence, Tuscany, and Umbria. (Yes, Florence is in Tuscany, but both guides treat it separately.)

This guide has a different author from the Italy guide, and not all recommendations line up between the guides. But, as I have said, I wouldn't plan a trip based on one author's opinion, so that's not all bad. Overall, I have found this guide to be extremely helpful, and the small, pull-out map of Tuscany and Umbria included is very helpful; I'd been looking, unsuccessfully, for a map of that size and scale!

One thing the guide does not have is photos; but combine the pictorial Eyewitness guides** with the wealth of prose information in this book and you have a winning combination.

Note: This review is of the 6th Edition published in 2008. Other reviews may be of different editions.

Pretty useful - Robert B -
I would have given it 3.5 stars, but couldn't so I will round down. I used this book for a trip I had earlier this year. It covered every city that we were interested in going, and since that was the case, it lacked detail on some the off the beaten path cities. Overall, I found it to be pretty useful and we were able to fill in some of the gaps with tripadvisor and some other sites. There was a lot more detail in the more popular cities, which makes a lot of sense since those are much more well travelled. The hotel and restaurant picks were all pretty good. We didn't visit the more popular cities this time around, but the book would have been useful to have on previous trips.

very good comprehensive book for travelers - LC - Sarasota, FL
I have looked at all the guides rick steves, fodors, lonely planet, and michelin. I found the frommers to be the most helpful and diverse - the guide recommends venues in every town/city that will appeal to families, romantics, wine/food lovers, etc. I looked at the 4 reviews before this review and I think those reviews are for an older edition of the book. Those reviews were written in 2009 and this book came out in February 2010.

Customer Review

True to its name, this curling iron heats up fast (literally 1-2 minutes), and a blinking light turns solid when it's at temperature and ready to use. It gets extremely hot -- settings range from 1 to 25 and even a "5" is too hot to touch; I've used it at "13" for several months now with great results. Its clamp holds hair securely but doesn't snag hairs in the hinge. A sturdy wire foot and a plastic tip keep the hot barrel off the countertop. It has an on/off button and will automatically turn itself off (but not until it's left untouched for about an hour). The iron cools in the usual amount of time (touchable in 5-10 minutes, completely cool in 15+ minutes).

I mostly use the 3/4-inch model -- but, with my very short hair, I also use the 1/2-inch model during the first week or so after I've had a haircut. Highly recommended -- they're the best curling irons I've ever used.

Merchandise Falsely Described - M. Hamblin - Virginia
I ordered this item on Amazon because none of the stores in my area carry the chrome curling irons anymore. They only carry these multi-layered barrel irons and they stick to your hair and pull it out as you use the iron, which makes it useless. I am just looking for a plain chrome barrel, 1" curling iron, which this claims to be. When I got it, I found that it was not a chrome barrel as described, but the same piece of garbage that I just wasted money on at Target to buy. I am thoroughly annoyed.

Worthless piece of junk - A. Joy - STRATHAM, NH, US
I bought this for at a CVS thinking it was a different model I had looked up on the Internet. I got home to find out that this was not so, but decided to try it out anyway...

WHAT a mistake. I have the thinnest hair in the world, therefore making it the easiest to curl. This thing wouldn't give my hair any shape. After holding my hair on the iron for 20 seconds, I still didn't get a single curl. Save your money for something nicer.

I've always liked Frommer's, mainly because the books are well-organized and provide a great overview and starting point. The attractions are clearly explained, with hours, admission fees, restrictions, & considerations. The hotel suggestions are generally good, though usually a little on the more expensive end, and in lieu of internet I find them generally reliable.
It can be a little dry and a little mainstream, but their books are usually updated with good regularity & is good for planning your sightseeing and transportation. More detailed information on ferries & hydrofoils (not just from Frommers but guide books in general) would be nice!

Beware of the maps! - Art monger - Princeton, NJ United States
This book was useful for finding hotels, but I was extremely frustrated with its maps. Perhaps I shouldn't have relied on them to find my way around Verona on a scorchingly hot day, but then again, I should have been advised to buy a detailed map once I hit the city. Too few streets were marked and the churches were not well identified. I was so angry that I swore never to buy a Frommer's guide again.
